We are vulnerable.

The world has suffered 5 major radiation emergencies since 1945. These include the two Japanese bombings, the South Pacific islands that were contaminated with radioactive fallout in the 1950s, and the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear reactor accidents. In addition, there have been a few well-known close calls like the Three Mile Island or Windscale reactor accidents, and many other potentially dangerous incidents and troubling situations which are largely unknown outside the government or the nuclear industry.

Radiation emergencies take place more often than most people realize. The US, with the largest number of nuclear reactors in the world, and facing terrorist enemies who are determined to harm us, is under a unique threat that cannot be dismissed.  Regardless if the cause is hostile military or terrorist action, sabotage, accident, or just human error, the United States is at risk.
